AHC Seeks Member Organizations for newly formed Sub-Committee

Given the growing number of regulatory issues potentially affecting the horse industry, at the suggestion of the AHC Health & Regulatory, the American Horse Council Board of Trustees has agreed to divide this workload among two committees to be called the AHC Health Committee and the AHC Regulatory Committee. AHC is currently engaged on issues with EPA, FAA, DOT, DOI, and other federal agencies.

The Health Committee charter is “To monitor health related issues that are of concern to the horse industry including, but not limited to, developments or industry driven initiatives regarding equine health, import/export, or state or federal regulations related to equine health. Identify and prioritize concerns and opportunities, evaluate related information, and determine actions or activities that may be appropriate.”

The Regulatory Sub-Committee charter is “To monitor regulatory issues and related rule making that are of concern to the horse industry including, but not limited to EPA oversight, transportation, air space regulation, rodenticide and insecticide registration, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, etc. Identify and prioritize concerns and opportunities, evaluate related information, and determine actions or activities that may be appropriate.”

Members of the existing H&R Committee will remain on the Health Committee including Dr. Katie Flynn, Chairman- USEF; Joseph Santarelli, Jr., Mersant International; Keith Kleine, AAEP; Ward Stutz, AQHA; Dr. Nat White, AAEP/EDCC; Dr. Martin Zaluski – GlobalVetLINK; Dr. Scarlette Gotswals – Brookledge Transport; Dr. Nathan Voris – Zoetis; Kirsten Shead  Pyranha; Deven Vespi — Cargill; and Ann Swinker, DVM (PA);Coalition of State Horse Councils.

The newly formed Regulatory Sub-Committee will be chaired by Tom O’Mara- USEF and include Holley Groshek of ELCR; Joe Santarelli – Mersant; Joe Wilson- TRA. AHC is also accepting nominations for this committee from AHC member organizations.

Like all AHC Committees, the Regulatory Sub-Committee will meet quarterly via Zoom to review, discuss and make recommendations to the AHC Board of Trustees. Those interested can contact Emily Stearns at estearns@horsecouncil.org
