Improving Biosecurity and Disease Prevention in the U.S. Horse Industry
In June 2025, the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), in partnership with the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC), released its final report on a multi-year project funded by the USDA APHIS National Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Program (NADPRP). The initiative focused on enhancing biosecurity and infectious disease prevention across the equine industry by identifying knowledge gaps and delivering targeted outreach.
With a grant of $176,960, the project supported the creation of practical tools, educational resources, and communication strategies to improve disease recognition and promote biosecurity awareness among horse owners, veterinarians, and industry professionals. This comprehensive effort underscores the importance of proactive, informed practices to protect equine health nationwide.
