Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
In January 2021 the American Horse Council established a Diversity/Equity/ Inclusion Task Force to provide input and feedback to help the equine industry develop and implement programs that will increase diversity and strive to ensure inclusiveness and equity. Task Force participants will share their respective initiatives and efforts with one another, identify successes that can be replicated, share lessons learned, identify possible gaps that need attention, share resources and brainstorm ideas that may be used by individual organizations or the industry collectively.
The Task Force is open to anyone in the industry. To date the participants, include: AYHC, APHA, IEA, AAEP, PATH Intl., USHJA, Purina, USEF, The Jockey Club, Amplify Horseracing, NRHA, Trafalgar Square, CHA and others.
The group’s first round of deliverables included a comprehensive DEI business case which is available below.
Starting in 2024, AHC will be issuing a survey to gauge DEI efforts in the industry and creating a series of PSAs on the value and benefits of DEI. Stay tuned!
We love horses because they give us the power to unlock our own power. We want to invite all people to experience the power of the horse/human connection. Sharing that passion with others by ensuring underrepresented communities are invited and welcomed to experience the power of horses will create a greater sense of belonging for all horse lovers, and build a stronger, more sustainable equine industry.
