American Horse Council and Hickey Win Clay Puett Award
WASHINGTON, DC – The American Horse Council and President Jay Hickey recently won the Clay Puett Award.
The award is presented by the University of Arizona’s Race Industry Program at their annual Symposium on Racing and Gambling, recently held in Tucson, Ariz.
Named in honor of the long-time Arizona resident who, in 1939, designed the first closed starting gate that revolutionized the horse racing industry, the award recognizes outstanding contributions to the racing industry.
In a press release announcing the award, university officials said:
“From keeping abreast of the many tax issues that affect equine breeding and racing enterprises to lobbying on behalf of the racing industry – most recently the exemption for racing in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 – the American Horse Council represents the equine industry in Washington.”
As the national association representing all segments of the horse industry in Washington, D.C., the American Horse Council works daily to represent equine interests and investments. Organized in 1969, the AHC promotes and protects the industry by communicating with Congress, federal agencies, the media and the industry on behalf of all horse related interests each and every day.
The AHC is member supported by individuals and organizations representing virtually every facet of the horse world from owners, breeders, veterinarians, farriers, breed registries and horsemen's associations to horse shows, race tracks, rodeos, commercial suppliers and state horse councils.
